Under the guidance of experienced student researchers, participants will learn how to identify research opportunities, approach faculty, and confidently pursue research experiences.

Goals of RAMP Accordion Closed

  • Prepare undergraduate students for meaningful research experiences
  • Provide opportunities to develop professional skills that can be applied to any discipline
  • Make research within every discipline accessible to all students

What’s in it for you? Accordion Closed

  1. Prepares you for graduate and professional school
  2. Provides the opportunity to work closely with graduate students and faculty within your area of interest
  3. Allows you to explore your career interests
  4. Strengthens skills sought after by employers, such as critical thinking and effective communication
  5. Helps you develop a deep understanding of who you are and builds your self-confidence

Mentees will:

  • Draft a professional resume
  • Connect with potential faculty mentors
  • Identify potential funding sources and opportunities to earn credit for research
  • Receive support from an experienced student researcher

Who can become a mentee? Accordion Closed

The mentees who participate in RAMP typically have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Have little to no experience engaging in research as an undergraduate student
  • Have a desire to learn more about how to get started in research
  • May not have connections with any students/faculty currently engaged in research
  • Looking for support and guidance on how to create application materials for desired internship/research opportunities

Who can become a mentor? Accordion Closed

We are always welcoming students with at least 6 months of experience in a research-based setting! If you are someone who wants to share their research knowledge and experience with students like them, please Become a mentor today! Benefits of volunteering as a mentor include:

  • Satisfaction of having a mentee succeed and eventually becoming a friend and colleague
  • Attract good colleagues who can help produce better research
  • Stay on top of your field by coaching junior colleagues
  • Develop your professional network by making and strengthening your own contacts by making connections for your mentee
  • Extend your contribution and having the results of your good mentoring live after you

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity will provide training materials and support along with additional workshops/events to support the mentorship through RAMP to help you feel prepared and ready to be an effective mentor.
