Overview Accordion Closed
Mission: To support student learning in mathematics and empower students to take responsibility for their future academic success. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to improve their math placement and increase their comfort level with college-level mathematics and statistics courses.
- The Peak Performance program is a flexible online summer program, designed to help incoming first-year students who are looking to refresh their math skills before the fall semester.
- We offer this as a free service to help our students. Peak Performance is not a requirement.
- Students will be matched with a peer Math Coach who provides academic support during the summer and have access to an online learning platform.
Duration Accordion Closed
Peak Performance is a 6 week summer program, with 2025 dates set for Monday, June 2nd through Sunday, July 13th. The last day to enroll in the program will be Monday, June 9th.
Requirements Accordion Closed
Any student that meets the following criteria is eligible to enroll and participate in Peak Performance:
- Must be admitted to NAU as an incoming first-year student AND
- be one or more math courses behind the minimum math requirement for their degree plan.
The Peak Performance program is 100% online. In order to participate in the program, you will need a computer/laptop with webcam and microphone capabilities (in order to communicate with your Math Coach via Zoom), as well as a stable internet connection. It would also help to have some form of note-taking device, such pencil and paper, notebooks, tablet, etc. – whatever works best for you to take notes and work through problems!
Weekly Time Commitment Accordion Closed
Students gain the most when they commit to working about 3-4 hours per week in the online learning platform. In addition to that time, students will meet weekly via Zoom for 1 hour with their Peer Math Coach who can help answer questions and keep them on track. Thus, the total weekly time commitment you should expect to put in is 4-5 hours per week. Of course, you can choose to put in more or less time, depending on your needs and summer schedule, but this is the average amount of time that students in our program who have successfully improved their math placement have invested in the past.
Online Learning Platform Accordion Closed
We use MyMathTest, which is a powerful online tool. MyMathTest continuously assesses student performance and activity and, using data and analytics, personalizes content to reinforce concepts that target each student’s strengths and weaknesses. MyMathTest uses adaptive learning which makes studying more efficient and individualized for each student. This ensures that students don’t spend time covering material they have already mastered and allows for students to stay on track to continue to progress and meet their goals. Students enrolled in the program will continue to have access to review for the duration of the summer.
Math Placement Test Accordion Closed
At the end of the six weeks, or when the student feels prepared to do so, those seeking to improve placement can take the NAU Math Placement Test in an attempt to challenge and increase their previous placement.
ALL NAU Math Placement Tests must be proctored. Please go to ready to test, to learn about our online proctoring option.

If you are unable to commit to Peak Performance, but wish to increase your math placement, visit the Math Placement website to enroll in the online Study Plan, which is similar to the Study Plan we use for Peak Performance. After following the link, open the accordion tab titled “How do I study for the Math Placement Test?” in order to enroll in the Study Plan.
