Advising

Help is available from the Department of Educational Specialties when you need it

Northern Arizona University advisors will help you determine the courses to take as you work toward your degree in education. Many departments, like Educational Specialties, also have staff and faculty members available to assist with input to ensure your path to degree completion is on the right track. Whether you’re a new student, transfer student, online student, or continuing student, advising services are available to you.

First year students and undeclared students

The Gateway Student Success Center can also be contacted by emailing or calling your NAU advisor. Not sure who your advisor is? Use your student center in LOUIE.

Educational Specialties students, sophomore level and above

Find assistance in the welcoming, student-centered environment of the College of Education’s Office of Student Services.

NAU online and statewide campus students

Current NAU online and statewide campus students are encouraged to use NAU’s appointment planner to schedule an appointment with their assigned advisor.

Graduate students

Once you are admitted to a Teaching and Learning graduate program, you will be assigned an academic advisor.  All students are encouraged to use NAU’s appointment planner to schedule an appointment with their assigned advisor. Questions can also be asked by emailing or calling your NAU advisor. Not sure who your advisor is? Use your student center in LOUIE.

If you applied to a teacher certification program, you will be assigned to both an academic advisor and a faculty mentor.  Your academic advisor will assist you with admission requirements, enrollment, petitions and other academic needs.  Your faculty mentor will serve as a professional advisor.

Non-degree seeking students

If you are a non-degree seeking student taking classes at the Flagstaff campus and need advisement, please contact the Educational Specialties department office by email or at 928-523-9316.
