Things Not Seen: Narratives of Hope, Grief, Loss and Struggles for Self-Acceptance

Exhibition dates: September 8–October 31, 2022
Opening reception: Oct 6, 2022, 6–8pm

This exhibition focuses on suicide awareness and mental health challenges as one component of a multi-venue community project initiated by the research and creative explorations of NAU Assistant Professor Debra Edgerton. Edgerton invited faculty and students from across disciplines to work on the subject of suicide awareness and how we interpret grief, loss and mental health through artistic process and expression.

The pandemic has seen a rise in mental health issues on campus and across the globe, but the stigma attached to struggles with mental health keeps many from acknowledging their issues or seeking assistance. Things Not Seen takes advantage of a media driven society where images can give voice to current topics and issue-driven subjects. Artworks were created through assignments focusing on mental health with a goal of allowing students see the application of classroom content to a transferable product.

Programming for Things not Seen extends to two additional venues.  Check back for specifics on programming at Clara M. Lovett Art Museum and the Murdoch Community Center.
